Christmas Pictures

So I am officially a Christmas slacker. Granted..all of my shopping and wrapping is completed and I have done all the necessary arrangements for hosting Christmas dinner here, but I failed to remember one important aspect.. I forgot to schedule Nolan's Christmas photo session until last week. So off we go to Portrait Innovations with an early morning appointment. I thought that I was the only one who failed to schedule Christmas pics, but boy was I wrong..it was packed!! Anyway, next year I will be going with our beloved photographer or maybe even scheduling with a special out of town photographer, i.e. Raven :), but for this year it is what it is. So Nolan did great with the family picture, but he wanted nothing to do with his individual shots. He was totally NOT interested at all in sitting in the chair or looking at the Christmas tree, but he was thoroughly impressed with the empty present boxes..so much so that he barely even looked up from the boxes, much less smiled for the stranger with the camera and the stuffed animal on his head. Anyway, at least the picture selection process was easy since we didn't have many to choose from. So..here are some of the best pictures from this morning :)

An Incredible 17 Months

Today Nolan is officially 17 months old. How in the world did that happen????? I continue to be amazed by him each day. Every day is a new adventure full of laughter and learning, and some tears and boo-boos along the way. I hope that the next 17 months don't go by as quickly as these have...I have enjoyed watching him grow and change and I am looking forward many many more fun-filled days with my little Roo.

From a Penguin to a Lion

Ok..so here is my belated Halloween post of my little lion. A couple of days before Halloween our church hosted a "Reformation Day" celebration, very similar to a fall festival to give kids a safer alternative to trick-or-treating. The kids are supposed to dress as a favorite Bible character or ark animal. Last year Nolan was an adorable little penguin, but this year he moved up to king of the jungle status. I had his costume picked a long time ago, so starting in early Oct. I began asking him what a lion says. He first looked at me like I was absolutely crazy when I started "roaring," but he quickly became amused and started "roaring" back to me in a sweet little voice. Of course he doesn't always perform on command, especially when others are present (sound familiar to any other mommies??), so getting a video clip is pretty much next to impossible. (BTW- now he not only knows what a lion says, but also a pig, cow, dog, cat, snake, monkey, duck, bear, chicken, horse, and elephant, ok proud mommy moment over :)) So since I didn't have my blog last Halloween I decided to post some old and new costume pictures. It is amazing what a difference a year makes!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Thanksgiving is absolutely one of my most favorite days of the year. You get to spend the day with family and/or friends thanking God for all of your blessings, eat way too much, watch football, and hang out all day just having fun. I know that most of blog friends have done "I am thankful for.." lists, so I thought that it was only appropriate that I should do one, too. Here it goes.... I am Thankful for:

1. God up above...he has provided me with so many blessings: more than I need and certainly more than I deserve.

2. Bill, Nolan, and Riley: my boys mean the world to me and I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful husband, fabulous son, and quirky dog. I love you all more than you will ever know!I love being surrounded my boys each day.

3. Family/Friends: I thank God everyday for my family and friends. What wonderful people I am blessed with in my life. Even though I don't live close to all those who are my relatives or those that I consider to be family, I think about you all each day and I am so grateful for all of you. And we are looking forward to Nana and Papa moving into their "weekend home" permanently one day.

4. Our Nation/Our Soldiers: What a blessing to live in the US..even though I don't agree with everything that goes on in this country, there is certainly no better place to live. Each day we enjoy freedoms that other people can't even imagine. Thankfully our soldiers fight for our safety and the freedoms we enjoy and too often take for granted. So lets say a special prayer, especially today, for our soldiers and their families and for all they do for us.

5. Laughter/Smiling: Once you have a child, there is an endless supply of laughter and smiling. I really can't imagine my life without my Roo Bear. And Bill is pretty funny, too :)

6. Memories: the good and the bad or sad..each memory and life experience I have had taught me a lesson about who I want to be and who I don't want to be. I am also thankful to all my friends who have provided their love and support in the funny times and the sad times. I will treasure all those experiences forever.

7. Life/Birthdays: ok..so I joined the "30" club on the 22nd and I have to admit that the time leading up to the big day was quite difficult for me. Something about leaving my 20's behind just really stressed me out. But once my big day actually arrived I was ok. I was thankful that God had given me a wonderful 30 years..I have a beautiful and healthy son, a fabulous husband, wonderful family and friends, what more could I possibly need??? So I have decided to fully embrace being "30" and look forward to my next 30 years :)

16 Months

Ok..so I am really behind on my blogging, but I just had to let everyone know that Nolan is 16 months old today!! He is the joy of my life and I have so much fun with him. He is all boy, but such a sweet little man, too. Bill and I love him more than words can say, so Happy 16 Month Birthday, Nolan :)

We have been extremely busy this fall, but I promise to post some pics from all of our fun adventures very soon!!

Our little "Weepublican"

Today Nolan went with us to vote in his very first official presidential election. After lots of FOX news (Nolan LOVES the theme music for Brit Hume's 6 o'clock news~what can I say, he is his father's child!!) and political talk with Daddy, they cast a vote for their nominee. So here is a picture of Nolan proudly displaying his "I Voted" sticker. Daddy refers to this as Nolan's best impression of an ACORN voter- HA HA ;)

On a serious note... What a wonderful country we live in and how blessed we are to have our freedom. That was what I was thinking when we went to vote today. So as you vote this year, no matter what your affiliation, let's all continue to pray for our nation's leaders and the men and women who fight for our freedom everyday. God Bless America!

The Pumpkin Patch

Nolan has really been into pumpkins lately. His Nana and Papa brought him a big pumpkin a couple of weeks ago and he constantly points and talks to the pumpkin. He even turns to the orange page in his Baby Colors book to find the pumpkin. So of course on Saturday we had to take a little trip to the pumpkin patch. Although it was quite the drive out in the country,Patterson Farm, was well worth the drive. It is such a fabulous place for little ones and next year I know Nolan will have even more fun at the playground and the petting zoo. All this going on and Nolan's favorite was definitely the tractor ride. He had so much fun on the hayride and he kept pointing to the big tractor and saying "ta", which is his word for "truck," "tractor," "car," "train," anything that moves. He also had so much fun toddling through the pumpkin patch and talking to all the pumpkins. In the end Nolan ended up picking out a little pumpkin that is just the right size for him to carry around. He loves to carry his little pumpkin around the house~it really is so sweet!! So here are some pictures from Nolan's big adventure to Patterson Farm and his new little pumpkin!!

15 Months Old

Nolan is officially 15 months old today. I am completely in disbelief. These past 15 months have gone by so incredibly fast and his whole little life just seems like a whirlwind of fun and fond memories. I do find myself coping better with these monthly birthdays than I did before he turned "1", so I feel like that is a huge accomplishment for me :) Now, we celebrate each new month with joy and anticipation of what's to come. He surprises me each day with something new. A new word, a new funny antic, a new favorite, or simply a hug and a kiss. Hugs and kisses are certainly my favorite though. I love how he comes over to me when it is time to go to bed and gives me a big snuggle and a smile before he toddles over to the door to go to his room. And I love this cuddly phase he is in right now. Granted this could totally be because he is teething and just needs some extra TLC from his mommy right now, but I don't care... I love it anyway :)

So to celebrate his 15 month birthday we are going to go to Monkey Joe's with his best buddy who is celebrating his 13 month old birthday today. It should be a lot of fun. These two little men have a ton of energy and love to play with one another!! It is such a rainy and yucky day AGAIN today (where is the beautiful fall weather I love so much????) so it is the perfect kind of day to go somewhere fun and play indoors. I'm sure I will have some very cute pics of the boys after our day is finished :)

Tagged Take 2

Ok .. maybe one of my tagged facts should be that I am NOT computer minded at all, but for some reason the tagged picture doesn't automatically appear~ you have to click on the X in the window to view the tag information. Sorry!! I don't know how to fix it :(

Tagged

Ok..I think that I figured out the tag thing, so here it goes...

1. I CAN'T stand feet (except for Nolan's sweet little tootsie toes, of course). They have always grossed me out. I don't even like it when Bill puts his feet anywhere on me when we are lounging on the couch. I think Bill definitely gets the better end of this deal because he never has to give foot massages or pay for pedicures.

2. I eat one thing at a time. While others take a bite of chicken and then a bite of potatoes, I tend to eat all my chiken first and then eat my potatoes. Strange I know. I have strived very hard to not pass this eating habit along to Nolan. So I make a conscious effort to always offer him more than one thing at a time or, god forbid, mix up his food a little bit. It has been a challenge, but I think I am doing quite well :) I also HATE for the food on my plate to touch (maybe this should be #3). Nothing grosses me out more for my food to "run" into other food items. My dad even bought me Corelle divided plates when I moved into my own apartment in grad school, and if Bill hadn't made me get rid of them when we got married I would probably still be using them today.

3. I take a ton of pictures on my digital camera and then I never seem to get around to having them printed. That annoys me!! I need to work on this one ;)

4. I don't like to stay by myself at night. This kind of surprises me since I used to live by myself in grad school and it was never an issue. Maybe it is because we live out in the country on a golf course and I never ever know what creatures and criters are out in the woods. Bill found a snake (my biggest fear ever!!!) hanging out on the glass panes on our front door one night right after we moved in. I was 7 months pregnant and he showed it to me (as if I really needed to see it) and I just stood there crying/screaming and running in place like an idiot. Then I couldn't sleep that night thinking the snake was going to get into the house somehow. Hence my theory as to why I don't like to stay by myself at night now.

5. I can't walk in a straight line. Not even kidding. I bump into doorways, the foot board, the kitchen island, etc. Probably explains why I wasn't very good on the balance beam, but loved the floor when I took gymnastics many, many moons ago.

6. I HATE to sweat!! And I hate it during the summer when you get ready and then you go outside and immediately start sweating. Also, probably why I never run. I wish I liked to sweat and run, but I kind of adopted a policy a long time ago that I wouldn't be running unless someone was chasing me. Fortunately that has never happened so I just don't do it.

7. I secretly enjoy watching kid shows, playing with toys, and just doing kid stuff in general. Having a toddler is great because you get to relive your childhood all over. I love watching Super Why, Thomas, and Sesame Street with Nolan. We took him to ride on Thomas last Friday (pictures to come) and it was really a lot of fun despite all the rain. I have so many other adventures that I can't wait to do with my little man.

I am tagging: Jennifer, Alyssa, Allison, Angy, and Meredith.

I am breaking the tag 7 people rule because all of my other blog friends have already been tagged and they don't need to repeat the process :)

Gone But Not Forgotten

I can hardly believe 7 years have passed since 9.11.2001. Just as many of you, I will never forget that day and its impact on our nation. May we all say a special prayer for the families of the victims, our leaders, and the brave men and women who fight for our safety and freedom everyday. May God bless you this day and always.

14 Months in a Wobbly World

Today Nolan is 14 months old!! It feels like it was just yesterday I was posting his 1st birthday pics and now 2 months later he has changed so much. He is learning more and more words. The newest favorites are "cookie" and "cracker"~ his little voice is so adorable!!! His receptive language and comprehension is fabulous as well. He is following so many directions and has been pointing to objects in books that we ask him to for the longest time. His little vocabulary is just amazing~ as a speech therapist I have an understanding of how children develop their language skills, but to get a front row seat each and every day is a totally different story :)

And of course we have all learned the true meaning of a "toddler". He is walking around everywhere!!! He went so quickly from being timid about walking and just taking a few steps here and there to being a full blown walking machine :) Along with this new adventure comes some ups and downs, literally. For instance, on the eve of his 14 month birthday I wasn't feeling all that well so I was downstairs in our bedroom and Bill and Nolan were upstairs in the bonus room which is directly above our bedroom. All of a sudden I hear a loud thump and immediate cries. I of course spring into panic mode and run upstairs to survey the damage. I open the door to the bonus room and find Bill holding Nolan and blood spewing from Nolan's mouth. WHAT?!?!?! Ok..so this is our first experience with blood and I try not to totally freak out. Nolan is screaming and crying and reaching for mama so we rush him to the bathroom and begin the calming/examination process. Turns out Nolan took a little wobbly spill and hit his mouth on his little tent/fort toy. I think he also bit his lip in the process. My poor little Roo :( After we calmed him down and stopped the bleeding the world was ok again. He drank some more milk and we attempted to put an ice pack on his new injury. BTW- I read in a magazine that a mom put the salad dressing, etc. packs from fast food restaurants in the freezer to use as ice packs because they are the perfect size. Bill laughed at me when he initially found little frozen salad dressing packs in the freezer, but now he knows you never know when you will need them :) So needless to say Nolan has a fat lip on his 14 month birthday, but it certainly hasn't slowed him down one bit at all and we all survived our first bloody experience- unfortunately I have a feeling this is just the first of many with my active and adventurous little Roo.

12 Month Pictures

At the end of July we had Nolan's 12 month pictures taken by a wonderful local photographer. We went to Davidson College and found all the beautiful spots on campus to capture this point and time in our little man's life. This first year has been truly amazing and I thank God each day that he chose me to be Nolan's mommy. I wanted to share a few of my favorite pictures with everyone.

Long Time No Blog

Has it really been almost a month since I posted on this blog???? Sorry for the absence. August has truly been a crazy, hectic month. I definitely have a lot to update everyone on, but first Nolan and I want to wish a Happy 1st Birthday to Emory and Everett!!! Welcome to the toddler club :)

We have had such a busy and exciting month of August and I promise to post some long overdue pics in my next blog. For starters, Bill started a new job on August 1st. After over 3 years at SunTrust and a lot of thought and prayer, he decided to continue his mortgage career at Chase Mortgage. I am so very proud of him and I am so grateful for all he does for our family. Our basement project is 99% complete. YAY!!!! I promise to post some before and after pics once we are at 100%. Right now the painter is doing some touch-up work and a portion of the wood floors needs to be corrected. A couple of weeks ago the boys (i.e., Bill, my dad, and Neal~ thanks guys!!) moved all the office furniture from the upstairs bonus room to the new office in the basement. Then I moved all of my speech therapy materials down there later in the week..WHEW!! Glad that is over. I didn't realize how much stuff you gather over 5 years!!! Anyway, now Nolan has his new play room upstairs and he is loving it. No more playing around the office desk :) All I have to do is find some cute animal decorations for his play room and buy one more storage unit for all of his toys. We are getting there though :) Back to the basement..the tv arrived this week and we are anxiously awaiting the new sectional we ordered. Then all I have to do is decorate :(

We have also had an extremely busy, but fun social calendar. We have had 2 family birthdays, Happy Birthday to Mamaw Kearney and Aunt Stacey, an extended family member's college graduation~ Congrats Uncle Dave, 2 baby showers for my friends, Leslie and Abby, having twins!! Yep, that's right: a set of girls and a set of boys. We can't wait to meet Ava, Isabella, Caden, and Max!! I have a feeling we will be having lots of fun playdates in the future!! A long overdue TN trip while Bill was in Tampa for job training, a new job adventure for me (more to come later), and most importantly of all.....Nolan is officially a walker!!! YAY!! Again happy, but sad for mommy!! I know I did a previous post about Nolan walking, but of course after I told everyone about his first steps, he decided to be a little lazy. He crawls at warp speed and decided that crawling was a much faster means to an end for him. Anyway, at 13 months he is official and we are so very proud of him (I promise to attempt to post a video soon). Needless to say we have been busy, but I have some very cute pics of all of our adventures that I will post very soon. Now we are looking forward to Labor Day weekend and of course the UT game on Monday~ GO VOLS!!!

Partners in Crime

Ok...so today is the start of a new era in the Kearney house. Nolan and Riley are now officially partners in crime. I have had my suspicions that they have been conspiring and scheming, but today those suspicions were confirmed. Here's the story: We were getting ready to leave for Rolly Pollies class so after I let Riley outside, I put him in his crate. Nolan was hanging out in the bedroom while I went to the kitchen to grab the diaper bag. Next thing I know, I see/hear Riley running out of the bedroom and across the house. I go into the bedroom and see Nolan sitting next to Riley's crate and grinning like a Cheshire cat. My little man had "sprung" Riley from his crate!! First there is all the food Nolan gives Riley and now my 1 year old is able to open the crate!! WHAT?!?!? Now I know they are conspiring against me, so I have to be on my toes. Oh well, here's looking forward to many new and exciting adventures with my two boys :)

One of Nolan's Favorite Places

Nolan and his very first best buddy Anton on the platform swing :)

"Mommy, catch me if you can!!!"

This is Nolan in action at Rolly Pollies. I have blogged before about this FABULOUS place. So, these pics are more for Nana and Papa since they have not been able to attend one of his classes. Nolan has made some really good friends through these classes (me, too!!) and he looks foward to class every Monday. A fellow mommy took these pics for me since I forgot my camera again!! I still need to get a picture of him on the trapeze bar~ it is just the cutest and funniest thing you have ever seen!!

BTW- This is Roo at Rolly Pollies at the end of January (6 months old!!!!) How did all those changes happen so quickly :(

Water, Water Everywhere!!

One of Nolan's new favorite things is the water table he got for his birthday from his Aunt Stacey, Uncle Jim, and Cousin Katie. He LOVES to splash in the water with his water toys, dump the water out of the table (and dump it on mommy) with the bucket, and spin the water wheel, etc :) Moral of the story he just loves it!!

Such a mischievous grin ;)

Man, this shovel tastes yummy!!

Then and Now...

Okay...so I know that I have been a blogging monster today since I am finally able to post pictures again, but I can't believe I had a "mommy brain" moment (most of you know what "mommy brain" is, and if you don't, you will understand at some point and time) and didn't remember to post that exactly one year ago today we brought Nolan home from the hospital.

So, here are some then and now pictures:

My, my how he has changed :)

Party Pics

Be sure to look at the July 9th post for party pics!!

More Birthday Pics

Here are pics from Nolan's actual 1st Birthday~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROO!!

12 Month Check-Up

Today was Nolan's 12 month check-up with our fabulous pediatrician. Every time I see him he makes me so feel so much better. Being a first time mommy can be very stressful sometimes and Dr. Mange is so calm and knowledgeable. Nolan got a perfectly wonderful report. He weighed in at 21 pounds even and exactly 29 inches long :) Barring any unforseen mommy freak out moments and illnesses, we don't go back until his 15 month check-up in October!!

BTW- I have not been able to post any of Nolan's birthday pictures in a new post. Blogger lets me post pics on my blog layout, but not on my actual post. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it?? HELP!!! I hate not being tech savvy!!

Birthday Pictures

Okay, so I consulted with my in-house tech guy and he figured out the picture problems. Thanks Babe, such a good hubby!!

Here are some pictures from Nolan's soiree!!

Nolan loved opening all of his wonderful presents! Thanks again everyone :)

Here's Nolan's Big Boy Cake. We kept with the transportation birthday theme!

Nolan loved having his very own birthday cake!! YUMMY!!

Who won? The birthday boy or the cake???

Taking a ride in Nolan's new wagon with Brock and Katie. Thanks Nana and Papa :)

Hip Hip Hooray .....

Roo Bear is "1" Today!!!!

I can't believe Nolan is actually a year old today. Happy and Sad for mommy!!

Many of you know the overall significance of this day for me. July 9 is truly a testament of God working in mysterious ways. My Mamaw passed away on July 9, 2002 when I was in grad school and exactly 5 years later Nolan was born. Before Nolan's birth, July was such a sad time for my family, but now God has given us something beautiful to celebrate every year. I know Mamaw is looking down on us today celebrating, too. She was such a beautiful person and I know her spirit will definitely live on in Nolan.

The cute birthday boy has been celebrating since Saturday. We had a party at our house for friends and family and Nolan had so much fun!!! He was certainly the "host with the most" and did not get overwhelmed at all by all the hustle and bustle around him. I promise to post party pics tomorrow~today is all about the actual birthday :)

Bill took the day off from work so we could spend a family day together to celebrate our sweet little Roo Bear. We decided to go to Concord Mills Mall. We had a yummy lunch and then went to Build a Bear. What a fun place!!! Roo Bear got his birthday boy sticker and then we picked out a bear. (they actually have a WASHABLE velvety bear with embroidered eyes just for little ones~FABULOUS!!) Then we headed over to the attire section so Daddy could pick out the bear's outfit. We narrowed it down to two choices (for once it was nice for boys not to have a huge assortment of clothing to choose from~ all you mommies of boys know what I am talking about!!) and let Roo decide. So....the Carolina Panthers uniform it is. He is his father's child :)
Nolan was fascinated by the process of making his new "lovie". He actually doesn't have a lovie at the moment, so we are very hopeful his birthday bear will do the trick! He really loved it when the lady put the stuffing in the bear and he just kept pointing and talking to the machine. Again, he is his father's child!! Anyway, the bear is adorable and we all had such a blast making Nolan's new lovie.

Then on to the carousel we went!! Nolan absolutely loves riding the carousel so he got a turn with Daddy and then Mommy, too!! He loves the lights and the music and he justs talks to all the horses. He is so adorable!!

After a quick power nap and a failed attempt at a real nap, Nolan was up and ready for his second party. Aunt Stacey and Cousin Katie came over to play with all of Nolan's new birthday toys and Mamaw and Papaw Kearney came over too. Nolan had his very first cheese pizza for his birthday dinner. And for dessert, special cupcakes made by mommy :) After that it was straight to the wash down (i.e., the bath for all of the non-Thomas the Tank Engine fans). Then more playing with all the new toys. He just finally went to sleep after his very fun birthday!!

Thank you to everyone who called, sent cards/gifts/emails, etc. We really appreciate having such special friends and family. Everyone truly helped make Nolan's birthday so very special :)

Nolan is such a gift from God and we feel truly blessed to be his parents. We are looking forward to many more big boy adventures with our little Roo. So, Happy 1st Birthday little man!! We love you more than words can say!!!

The Countdown is ON!!

(older picture of Nolan in his crib, but I love this one and I am feeling a little sentimental this morning!!)

It is official!! Nolan will be a 1 year old in exactly one week!!! I can't believe what an amazing year it has been with this precious little boy. He warms my heart every time I see him. For example, this morning when I went to get him from his crib, he started smiling and jumping up and down. Then as I am giving him the standard good morning hug and greeting, I hear a sweet little "mama" in my ear. Although he has been saying "mama," "dada," and "bubba" (for Riley) for quite awhile, it still melts my heart!! He has the sweetest little voice and I treasure each and every little word. So, the countdown is on to my baby boy becoming a toddler. WOW!!!

What a Blessed Day

Congratulations to the Atnip Family!! Baby Lizzie was born yesterday to VERY happy parents after a VERY long wait. Check out pictures of the beautiful baby and proud parents at Courtney's blog. I wish I could be there to meet her!! Nolan is very excited to welcome another future Tennessee Volunteer into this world :)

Also, belated Congratulations to the beautiful Akin family. They welcomed their sweet little boy, Hudson, last week. I am so excited to finally meet him tomorrow!! Nolan and I are looking forward to many playdates together with Hudson and his mommy :)

May God continue to shower his blessings on these new families!! Enjoy each and every moment with your precious little ones!!

Food for Thought

This is YUMMY!!!
SO CUTE!!

Anyone who has met Nolan will agree that he certainly loves to eat!!! He definitely carries on the Kearney/Smith "enjoyment of food" gene. I haven't really been able to find much that he doesn't like (except for Pasta Pick ups, which are extremely gross!!, and baby food peas and peaches, but he loves big kid peas and peaches) so I can't complain. I was talking to a friend the other day about the foods he eats and I was amazed as I went through the list. Here is a sample: peas, diced peaches and pears, cheese, cheese toast, spaghetti, rotini with cheese, pita bread, whole grain bread, chicken, pork, ham, turkey, ground beef, cantaloupe, mango, watermelon, banana, carrots, English muffins, pancakes, rice, and of course his favorite snacks: Gerber puffs, Crunchies, dried fruit, Cheerios, Baby Mum Mum rice cakes, Earthland's Best cereal bars, crackers, and letter of the day cookies. Quite an amazing palate for my little man!! And now that he is finally cutting his top two teeth (YAY!!! what an extended teething experience we have had thus far!!!) I bet he will try even more exciting new foods!! I'm sure he is anxiously awaiting the birthday cake and ice cream coming his way next week at his 1st birthday party!! That should make for quite a few interesting pictures!!
